Our Team
Scott Carle
President & CEO
As Founder and President of East Coast Drilling & Blasting Scott oversees all aspects of estimating, equipment procurement and corporate operations. His guidance ensures a high level of quality throughout the company and ensures timely delivery of projects. Scott started working in this industry in 1979. He worked in both underground and surface coal mines. He then worked as a sales representative for a large mining equipment manufacturer prior to starting his own equipment sales company. Scott founded East Coast in 1992 and moved the company to North Carolina in 1996 where it resides today. He is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering.
Paul Cypher
General Manager & VP
As GM/VP Paul supervises all construction drilling and blasting operations. He is in charge of our business development; as well as overseeing contract negotiations and billing. With a background in site work Paul has a deep understanding of what our customers require and is able to help ensure we deliver our services on time and within budget. He is a graduate of NC State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering and Management.
Rodney Huffman
Western NC Divisional Manager
As Division Manager Rodney supervises drilling and blasting operations to ensure that the customer's site plan specifications are met. The Western Division provides different obstacles due to many of the projects being located in the mountainous region of NC, TN, VA, and WV. Rodney has 23 of experience in this industry and is able to manage the schedules and complicated projects that arise in that region of the county.
Jim Schultz
Southwest Division Manager
As Division Manager Jim supervises drilling and blasting operations to ensure that the customer's site plan specifications are met. The Southwest Division provides services to the Charlotte area and reaches well into South Carolina. Jim has over 30 years of experience in this industry and is able to manage the schedules and complicated projects that arise in that region of the county.
Grant Culp
Production Manager
As Production Manager Grant ensures projects start and finish on time in a safe and productive manner. Growing up in a family who ran a sitework business Grant has been involved in site work his entire life and his experience is invaluable. His ability to think ahead and plan how we complete the work ensures that we meet our client’s schedules. He is a graduate of NC State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management
Steven Ackles
Estimator
As Estimator Steven is responsible for creating budgets and proposals for all aspects of drilling, blasting and crushing projects for Heavy Highway, Utility, and Residential/Commercial Projects. Steven utilizes Agtek 4D to create accurate takeoffs and to perform value engineering for our clients to minimize costs. He also oversees our test drilling operations. He is a graduate of The Citadel, where he earned a Bachelor degree in Business Management.
Victor Hedden
Magazine Supervisor
Victor is responsible for overseeing our inventory of explosives at our magazine as well as job costing. He ensures that we complete all compliance paperwork with regards to inventory and transportation of explosives. He coordinates our blasters needs for different types of explosives and he ensures we have the explosives in our magazine.
Denielle Bartlett
Secretary/Treasurer
Denielle has been with the company for over 16 years and has been responsible for Admin, Payroll and HR. Her experience within our company make her a valuable asset to our team.
Joe Dobeck
Blasting Safety Coordinator
New to the company, Joe spent over 25 years in the Army as an EOD ( Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Technician, 16 of those being in the Special Operations community. He is responsible overseeing the blasters and blaster assistants for the entire company along with magazines.
Harold Byrd
Drill Operator Trainer
Harold spent over 17 years in the Marines and has over 22 years of experience in our industry all at East Coast. He is responsible for educating new employees on how to operate and maintain our fleet of drills. He attended UNLV for Business Management.
Chad Hiles
Shop & Service Manager
As Shop and Service Manager Chad is responsible for preventative maintenance, maintaining inventory of repair and wear parts, and repairs of the company's extensive fleet of heavy equipment which includes over 80 pieces of equipment and over 20 on road vehicles. Chad has over 26 years’ experience in the drilling and blasting industry as a driller and mechanic prior to becoming our manager.
Jeff Kent
Regulatory Compliance Manager
As Regulatory Compliance Manager Jeff oversees all facets of regulatory compliance on behalf of the company. This includes safety, insurance, inventory control, and compliance with the regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Homeland Security and Department of Transportation. Jeff Kent attended UMASS Amherst and North Adams State where he studied Liberal Arts.
Kevin Gonyea
Crushing Manager
As Crushing Manager Kevin utilizes his 29 years of crushing experience to manage our crushing operations on multiple projects at one time. He ensures that we set up all of our equipment in an efficient manor and creates a consistent product in a safe and productive manor. Kevin was instrumental in selecting our state of the art crushers and stackers to ensure we keep up with our clients needs for various products.
Josh Dudley
Supervisor
As Supervisor Josh is responsible for managing the drillers, hammers and blasters for specific projects. He is also responsible for laying out all of the shot patterns utilizing staking or one of our GPS systems. He is in the field each day working hand in hand with our clients ensuring each project is done to our client’s satisfaction. Josh has over 7 years of experience in our industry and comes from site work background so he understands the needs of our clients.
Marvin Alvarado
Supervisor
As Supervisor Marvin is responsible for managing the drillers, hammers and blasters for specific projects. He is also responsible for laying out all of the shot patterns utilizing staking or one of our GPS systems. He is in the field each day working hand in hand with our clients ensuring each project is done to our client’s satisfaction. Marvin has over 12 years’ experience all at our company and is also bilingual. Marvin started as a driller and worked his way up to trainer and then supervisor.
James Weatherford
Supervisor
James joined our team as a hammer operator and worked hard to be promoted to an assistant project manager. He then showed his ability to manage people and meet our customers' needs. James has been a great addition to our management team as he looks after our contractors in the triangle area.
Steven Britton

He is in the field each day working hand in hand with our clients ensuring each project is done to our client’s satisfaction. Steven grew up in a family owned drilling business and has 20 years’ experience in our industry.
